Descendants of Joaquin F. D'Aruda

Generation No. 1
1. JOAQUIN1 F. D'ARUDA (FRANCISCO) was born 1871 in Sao Miguel, Azores.  He married MARY BOLCOME April 17, 1893 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, daughter of JOAQUIN BOLCOME and OLINDA MARSHALL.
Notes about JOAQUIN F. D'ARUDA and MARY BOLCOME:
Joaquin D'Aruda came to the United States about 1892.  No record of his immigration has been found; however, the name on his marriage record is Joseph K. Smith.  He is listed in the Gloucester city directory around 1896 as Joaquin Smith at 30 Perkins Street.  His occupation has been listed as fisherman and fish skinner.  His residence in 1911 was 15 Willow Street.  Joaquin does not appear on the 1920 census; however, there are several Joseph Smiths listed in the city directory at that time, so perhaps he remarried.

Mary Bolcome's address at the time of her death in 1924 was listed as 30 Perkins Street, Gloucester, Massachusetts.  The informant listed on the death certificate was Joseph K. Smith, Jr., of the same address.   She is listed as a widow at the time of her death according to the death certificate, but she apparently was separated or divorced from Joaquin.  She and her mother, Olinda, are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Poplar Street, Gloucester.

iii. LOUISA VERONICA SMITH, b. November 3, 1900, Gloucester, Massachusetts.
iv. LUCIBELLE SMITH, b. October 19, 1904, Gloucester, Massachusetts; m. IVAN WILLIAMS, June 28, 1924, Gloucester, Massachusetts.
v. EVELYN FLORENCE SMITH, b. January 6, 1906, Gloucester, Massachusetts; m. MAURICE CLEVELAND WENTZELL, November 6, 1924, Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Generation No. 2
1. WILLIAM2 SMITH (JOAQUIN F.1 D'ARUDA, FRANCISCO) was born June 6, 1896 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and died February 25, 1965 in Harwich, Massachusetts.  He married (1) LOUISA BAKER DECOSTE December 29, 1916 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, daughter of JOSEPH DECOSTE and GEORGIA TARR.  He married (2) ANNIE G. DUARTE.
Notes for WILLIAM SMITH:
Per 1920 census, William and Louisa Smith resided at 7 Gilbert Court, Gloucester.   William was buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Harwichport, Massachusetts.  He was a veteran of WW1 and caretaker on various estates.  His residence at the time of his death was Great Western Road, Harwich.
Notes for LOUISA BAKER DECOSTE:
At the time of her second marriage to Frank Stophel (Sept. 25, 1923), Louisa DeCoste Smith resided at 7 Gilbert Court, Gloucester.  After her second marriage, she moved to Pennsylvania.
Children of WILLIAM SMITH and LOUISA DECOSTE are:
i. JOSEPH SEALES SMITH, b. October 31, 1919, Gloucester, Massachusetts; d. March 14, 1989, Essex, Massachusetts; m. MYRTLE CAROLYN DAY, December 25, 1947, Essex, Massachusetts.
ii. MARY SMITH, b. Gloucester, Massachusetts; m. FRANK PONIKVAR.
iii. HELEN SMITH.
